Saturday’s WinterLAN gaming party was a success by any measure. Game-wise, practically everything was represented — I think we had 7 or 8 vintage and modern consoles running simultaneously, plus dozens of PCs on the network, and tabletop games galore. People-wise, there were 40-plus people in the space most of the night, with the last game of Artemis finally wrapping up around 5am.
Thanks to everyone who made the party what it was, from the members who organized it, to the guests just making it to the space for the first time. By the way, there’s no need to wait for next year’s WinterLAN before coming back — there’s a regular tabletop gaming night on the calendar, and if hacking/making is more your style, we do that every night of the week! Just look for that little box in the upper right to say “open for guests”, and you’re invited, just like that.
i3Detroit’s legendary Halloween Party is back! 2012’s blowout will be held on November 3rd, 7:30pm -??, at our shop in Ferndale. Come and see what the creative minds of i3 have in store. There will be music, snacks, and lots of surprises! You never know what, or who, you’ll see at an i3 party. Costumes are, of course, preferred. Happy Halloween everyone!

When you’re Yelp, and you’re throwing a big party at the Fillmore, where do you look for entertainment? A bunch of local outfits, including i3 Detroit, of course! We’re bringing the giant Connect Four and beanbag toss (I refuse to call it that other name), and Robot Fight Club, and the Squiggletrike, and maybe even the dangerously fast Power Wheels car #3.
It’s more than just a party, of course: Yelp is raising funds to support a Detroit charity: ”Real Life. My Music. is a nonprofit organization created to provide a musical and artistic outlet to inner city youth in Detroit“. Considering all the education cuts, that sounds like it fills an important gap!
It’s happening this Friday, 9/7. All the details are over at Yelp, and while the shindig is free, you have to RSVP to get in, so just go do that already. Oh, and bring a few bucks for the fundraiser. See you there!
(Can’t make the party but still want to support Real Life. My Music? They’re collecting donations online with Crowdrise, too.)
Over the weekend was this years Detroit Maker Faire.
We built, Make and Partied the weekend away!
On friday creators spent the day at i3 putting the finishing touches on their creations, while others prepared for the party saturday night. The space was spotless as a dedicated group stayed over night and constructed a photo booth which became a huge success at the party.
i3Detroit’s PowerWheels teams took 1st(#3) and 3rd(#13-Sean’s car) in the endurance race Sunday. Saturday, i3 took 1st in the 15 lap road course. There is a “YES”(1st place) medal that has been added to the trophy cabinet. For the Power Racing Series, Detroit was weekend 2 of 3, so we head to Chicago next weekend and hopefully all kick some butt to bring home so real trophies!
The party may not have won any awards this year, but we still had fun!! El Guapo taco truck came out, as did Treat Dreams, and Meed by B nektar to help party the night away. Sunday at least 5 projects from i3 walked away with editor choice ribbons.
Friday at i3 Detroit: It’s the return of the infamous unusual musical instrument jam session! Does you own something that makes noise? Then bring it along, and play it! Things should be rolling by 8pm, see the original post for details.
Saturday at District VII: Travelers on the Fabric of Time, a steampunk ball at which some i3 creations will be featured. Also burlesque performances, an aerial act, music, and more. District VII has a fantastic space, and if you haven’t been down there for an event before, it’s worth checking out. It’s not too late to glue some gears on something!
(Also, website hiccups continue as we work with our new webhost to iron out some server quirks. Bear with us.)
