Found myself in Pittsburgh for a few business meetings and wanted to visit our friends to the East, Hack Pittsburgh.
They have a very cool space with lots of style. I am quite jealous of a number of their tools especially their TIG welder. But I am most jealous of their ceiling cat.
Thanks to Matt and and the team for hosting me and the delicious pizza. The bristle bot challenge is still on and we are waiting for the day we race.

Amazing, amazing, amazing, that’s all we can say. We have 13 days left and we are 60% funded on Kickstarter. Thank you so much for your help. Your support is why we do what we do. We are almost at our goal. If you haven’t pledged to make i3Detroit v2.0 amazing yet, you still have time to do it. So do it. Right now. Seriously. I am talking to you!
Just wanted to share a picture set with you of our new facility. It has been posted once, but just can’t help but show it off like a newborn baby. We are working with the city of Ferndale and will hopefully have our C of O in the next couple of days. Then it is on to painting, building and moving.
We spent this past weekend boxing everything up at the old space. It was a bit sad and nostalgic. But like our insightful Director at Large, Nick Britsky said “i3 Detroit is in here” (while pointing to his heart). And, yeah, he is right.
Thanks again and enjoy the pics.
Just a quick glance at the schedule:
Monday: Nothing scheduled yet. Come hang out if the space is open!
Tuesday: Electronics meetup, no RSVP required. Theme: Soldering iron clinic — tip tinning, cleaners and holders, the role of flux in the soldering process. May also get into the other gear on the bench. I’ll try really hard to have the doors open by 7; somewhat earlier is likely. BYOSI if you want specific advice!
Thursday: Metal Machining class part 2.
Friday: The monthly Unusual Musical Instrument Jam Session, same time as PS:One does theirs. Bring noisy stuff! Also, FIRST competition begins in Ann Arbor. Also, new-member orientation — if you’ve been wanting to join, get here!
Sunday: Electronics class, piezo noisemakers. 2-4pm.
Not only is the space planning a hackathon but there will also be a Didgeridoo class and a Cacophony Club meeting. While we are not 100% sure what Cacophony club is, we know it is loud, noisy and full of circuity musical goodness.
These events are open to the public and we hope to see everyone there. For more information check out their site at http://pumpingstationone.org/.
So what are you planning on doing this Saturday? Well you are coming out to i3 Detroit to hang out with the members from Chicago’s very own Pumping Station: One. A crew of approx. 8 members from Pumping Station: One are heading out this Saturday to spend a day and evening with everyone at i3 Detroit. Their very own Eric Michaud will be teaching a class on lock picking for fun from 8pm-10pm this coming Saturday. If you are interested in taking the class please sign up on the i3 Detroit websites class page. Also if you just want to come and hang out with the members from i3 Detroit and the great people from Pumping Station: One you are welcome to do that as well. If you have a project that you want to work on in the space bring it, if you want to hang out a chat or bounce ideas around that is ok too.
We hope to see everyone come out and meet the crew from Pumping Station: One or maybe you have not been to i3 Detroit yet and have been wanting to check it out. This would be a great weekend to do this. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
