Ferndale, MI – i3 Detroit, Metro Detroit’s premiere community hackerspace, will be recognizing its one year anniversary at its Ferndale location with a public celebration and ceremony today, April 9^th, 2011 at 6 pm.

The 8,000 square-foot workshop has provided an ideal location for hosting classes and events for the community. Events held in the last year include introductions to welding, metal-casting, air brush, soldering, painting and even how to make home-brew soda.

The new location has also allowed its members to work on larger-scale projects using more advanced equipment. The space now boasts a growing wood and machine shop, a fabrication lab with access to laser and vinyl cutters, a chemistry lab, a bicycle repair area, an electronics room and a craft room, as well as other areas that encourage collaboration and creativity.

The event is open to the public with tool and project demonstrations.

The Great Global Hackerspace Challenge is on!

i3Detroit is a hackerspace in Metro Detroit. We are participating in this year’s challenge. Help us think up, build, and test an invention to help teachers overcome a common educational challenge, no matter how big or small, focused or general.

Holy Upcoming Events, Batman!

Yesterday’s Bottle-cap Contact Microphone class was a success thanks to CMKT 4. Attendees had the privilege of seeing a pretty cool little concert as well. i3Detroit is going to keep rocking it in the upcoming week and here’s how!

MICHIGAN SCALE MODEL BOAT CLUB MEETUP

ICE CARVING CLASS

Quick, before it melts!

Sunday, March 13th, at noon, member Dustin will be pulling out the chain saw for his Ice Carving Class. Students will learn basic carving techniques, texturing, and will got a little hands on experience!

METAL CASTING CLASS

Congrats to the newest tcgeeks blogger, Brad.  He is a founding member of i3 Detroit and will be writing hack & tech related stories for the iPad for them starting with his first post this past weekend (11/28/2010).
